It points towards Dunbeacon stone circle 400 m (\u00bc mile) to the west and the stones may have been used for astronomical observation.<\/p>\n<p>They were removed in 1980 but the stones were replaced in 1983 by the Office of Public Works, after local outcry, using a plan and elevation made in 1977 by archaeologists of Ordnance Survey Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of standing stones is unclear; they may have served as boundary markers, ritual or ceremonial sites, burial sites or astrological alignments.<\/p>\n<p>The stones are both about 1.8 m (6 ft) tall.<\/p>\n<p>A third stone once stood 63 m (70 yd) SSW of the pair; this has since been removed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"template":"","protoplace-type":[],"class_list":["post-391","protoplace","type-protoplace","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.undenk.info\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/protoplace\/391","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.undenk.info\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/protoplace"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.undenk.info\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/protoplace"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.undenk.info\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.undenk.info\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=391"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"protoplace-type","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.undenk.info\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/protoplace-type?post=391"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
